the monster won’t come in
if you lock your door.
he may knock.
he may scream.
he may pound his fists against the walls
and threaten to break down
the door, but
the monster won’t come in.
the monster can’t come in.
no matter how loud he yells.
no matter how much he declares,
“you’re nothing but a dumb whore!”
he will wait outside.
he will take more pills.
but as long as you keep your door locked,
the monster can’t come in.
